It may be the captivating blend of voices in harmony, or
possibly the timeless acoustical instrumentation or
their unique ability to share America’s true original
music. Regardless, those who have ever experienced the
music of bluegrass Gospel group Harvest, recognize that
upon hearing this talented group of young men, they are
experiencing something truly special.
Collectively known as Harvest, Mark Millsaps, Bryan
Hooper, Caleb Smith, Marty Price and 16-year-old Tyler
Kirkpatrick, who recently joined the group as dobro
player, are quickly turning heads and ears with their
rich vocal ability and exceptional instrumentation, not
to mention thought-provoking songs.
The group’s debut recording was released in the summer
of 2004 and was produced by legendary producer, Michael
Sykes, who has produced recordings for such popular
recording artists as the Oak Ridge Boys and the Gaither
Vocal Band. The recording, “John 4:35” was named Album
of the Year by the PowerGrass Bluegrass Gospel Music
Awards. Additionally, group member Caleb Smith received
the Male Vocalist of the Year honor, as well as the
Guitar Player of the Year Award. The group also received
the Song of the Year honor for their popular tune, “He
Wouldn’t Stay Dead.” Additionally, Harvest was invited
to participate in the International Bluegrass Music
Association's (IBMA) annual music spectacular, which is
bluegrass music’s premier event.
No doubt, even greater success lies ahead for this
talented Blue Ridge, GA, based group with the release of
their upcoming recording “Pressing On”, set to be
released early this summer on the RSI Music label. The
project was produced by multi-talented producer Ben
Isaacs and features guests appearances by Isaacs, as
well as talented female vocalists Sonya Isaacs and
Charlotte Ritchie. The recording features a number of
songs written by group members Caleb Smith and Marty
Price and also includes several Bluegrass Gospel
standards. According to RSI President Bob Rodgers, the
expectations are very high for this recording and for
the future of Harvest. “These guys are so talented,”
Rodgers states. “There are so many doors that are
opening for them, and we know that is a direct result of
God’s blessing and the willingness of Harvest to follow
where He leads. We think this recording truly captures
their talents and abilities. The sky is the limit for
Harvest.”
It is true that Harvest has experienced a certain amount
of success within the bluegrass music genre; however,
it’s most obvious that their music is destined to become
a household name among bluegrass music lovers. All who
hear them recognize that the musical entourage,
collectively known as Harvest, truly is something
special!
